Husk - Lygon Street, Carlton VIC
A fusion of botanical art and French interior design combined to inspire the latest Husk
boutique located in busy coffee drinking Carlton.
RED worked closely with the Husk team to develop the fourth store in their ever changing retail
environment, all of which are inspired to create a sanctuary that surprises and thrills. The aim
is to build a sense of community through tangible experiences. The result for Husk is a brand
associated with uniqueness, quality and fashionability.
Planning the tenancy RED develop three distinct zones aiming to increase retail sales. These zones included;
female fashion located adjacent the entry and shopfront for high exposure, fashion accessories located centrally
adjacent the changing rooms to encourage impulse sales and homewares located at the rear of the store as a focal
point adjacent the sales register.
Central to the design concept are beautifully hand painted botanical leaves. Applied directly to the
tenancy walls, this creative theme influenced the selection and design of other complementary elements.
Set off these walls are tree branches cast in bronze that act as clothing racks. The Garage Art Foundry
carefully and skilfully crafted each rack including the change room hooks and accessory bag trees that
are located throughout the emporium.
Grounding the creative concept is the Renaissance Chevron Parquet in lengths of 710mm and finished in
a waxed mushroom chalk finish. Their mitre joints and rustic finish contribute towards the longevity
and authenticity of the Husk brand.
The central change rooms resemble elaborate Bedouin tents. Lining the adjacent wall is a series of
full height mirrors that allow customers to fully appreciate the garments being considered for
purchase. Above, Mance Design, 'Candles in the Wind' float beneath the ceiling providing an added
layer of detail.
The glazed shopfront has been successfully opened up to allow the theatrical visual merchandising
Husk is known for to attract your attention. Framing this new glazing and complementing the building
architecture is aged copper moulding crafted by Economic Industries.
The experience is completed with a beautifully wrapped purchase in hand. You are then free to explore
the rest of the shopping district or unwind at the famous Carlton Espresso for a great tasting coffee.
